There’s something special about the way football brings people together, and something almost magical about living in a football-centric town during Game Day season. Whether you’re an avid sports fan or are new to the traditions of our college town, football season in Norman has a way of awakening the Sooner fan inside you.
- Cheer with your neighbors. Watching football at home with the dogs is okay, but your pets can’t yell at the television with you. Set out some dip and chips and invite your neighbors over for a watch party—You’ll get to know who the true fans in the neighborhood are! If it’s a big game or if you need more room, you can rent the community clubhouse for a true watch party experience.
- Tailgate the Town. With one of the winningest football programs in history at the center of the city, the streets of Norman transform into a sea of crimson and cream during the fall. Take a stroll from St. James Park to OU’s campus and you’ll find tailgates at every corner. Major streets are blocked off on game days to ensure tailgaters’ safety for a pedestrian-friendly environment. Students, residents, and visitors alike construct tents and set up grills for all-day cookouts, games and Sooner excitement. You haven’t truly experienced college football until you’ve tailgated with Sooner fans!
- Join the Crowd. The epicenter of Norman football is the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, where thousands of people from all walks of life join together for the crimson and cream. Nothing sends chills down your spine like being one of 85,000 fans cheering as the Oklahoma Sooners storm Owen Field. Whether you go to a single game or an entire season, attending at least one OU football game should be on any football fan’s bucket list!
