At St. James Park we love creating opportunities to foster relationships with you, our neighbors, and look for occasions to connect with the community on a larger scale. During this holiday season, here are some great ways to bond with your family and the community around you while making a meaningful contribution to Norman residents.
1. Clean out your food pantry. Make room for the yummy holiday treats that are sure to fill it in weeks to come. Specifically, look for those canned goods that have found their way to the back of your cabinets that you haven’t yet used. To make it a family affair, let the kiddos help choose what to donate. Note: Make sure to check expiration dates on all items before donating them! You can also go to the supermarket and let the youngsters pick out canned goods to give to a local food bank. |
2. Make an event out of your old clothes. With the weather getting colder, there are families in our area that could use extra clothing to help keep their kids warm this winter. Host a donation party with food, drinks and fun. Make the admission fee to your event an old piece of clothing. You’ll have a great time and a sack full of clothes to take to a local Salvation Army, Goodwill or to arrange a pick up from Charity Clothing Pickup. |
3. Volunteer your time and a smile. If you’re looking for a volunteer opportunity, the City of Norman will be hosting its annual Community Thanksgiving 11 am – 1 pm on November 22nd at Norman High School. You can help prepare, serve and/or clean up after the meal. |
4. Exercise with a purpose. Get up and get the entire family moving in the Turkey Day 5K to benefit Habitat for Humanity in Cleveland County, who has built 49 houses for low-income families throughout the community. Not a runner? They also need volunteers for the morning! |
5. Feed families with loose change. You can help Norman families in need by donating to Mission Norman, who hands out baskets of food to families throughout the community. Plus, all donations are tax-deductible. |
Stay tuned for a list of ways to give back to the community in the month of December.
